I attended my first Block Watch meeting last night. A couple of very interesting points came out of the meeting. First off, the head of community policing seems like she runs a very tight ship. The community police officer was saying that anytime there is a criminal act in a neighborhood, the police want to know. If there starts to be a pattern, police surveillance will get rerouted into those areas. Amazingly, the statistics dictate that only about 12% of property crime is reported. Secondly, to help cut down crime, get to know your neighbors. Their recommendation is to get to know six to the left, six to the right, six behind and six neighbors across the street from you. Lastly, mark your valuables with your Driver’s License number. Apparently even if you move to another province, you can always be traced through your Driver’s License.
